“All it takes is RM200 to get a fake PhD scroll bearing the insignia of local universities, reported Harian Metro. 

The scroll for doctorates, as well as diplomas and other degrees, are produced online and have become popular in recent years with job seekers, who otherwise would have to spend thousands of ringgit and years of study to get the genuine qualification. 

Internet investigation firm MVD International Sdn Bhd claimed there are more than 20,000 holders of false documents and 10% involved academic certificates. 

An applicant just has to pay between RM200 and RM1,500 for these fake documents, using credit cards or on-line bank transfers.

Managing director M. Venodevan said the company found that more people used fake certificates than genuine ones when applying for jobs. He said most of the people who bought the fake certificates had some knowledge of particular fields, but their result was not good enough to secure certain positions so they resorted to obtaining the bogus certificates. 

According to this survey, seems that this is a growing trend so if you are the interviewer/ employer, do be wary!
