Sabah-Civil Servants Probed
Reported in The Star (22/7/06):
“ Three-quarters of the alleged corruption cases reported in Sabah in the first six months involved civil servants. Sabah’s first Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) woman director Latifah Mohd Yatim said the agency received about 500 reports on alleged corrupt practices during the period. “Seventy-five per cent of these were against civil servants and the remaining involved the private sector and the public,” she said. Based on the 500 reports, Latifah said, the agency opened 286 investigation papers, which led to the arrest of 23 civil servants as well as nine employees of private companies and members of the public. Of the total 52 cases being brought to court
52% of which involved false claims, 15% corruption, 26% abuse of power and 2.5% money-laundering,
The rest of the information was no acted on because it did not involve corrupt practices, she added.
The findings in some cases had been forwarded to the relevant government departments for further action. She declined to reveal the departments involved, and if senior government officials or politicians had been investigated in relation to the cases.
Well, it seems that our Prime Minister’s advice has still fallen onto deaf ears! Anyway, anti-corruption/fraud takes time to eradicate hopefully with the passage of time, this will go away.

Hi,
I stumbled to your blog and it’s a wealth of information. I’m an auditor by profession and it’s refreshing to read articles and blogs of like-minded professionals.
I hope you don’t mind my request - I’m researching HR-related fraud and was wondering if you could suggest some reading material.
Thank you
